Randomness

... For all those little things that just don't fit anywhere else, but want to be posted... Without their own thread.
Cause yeah :P

My randomness...
A copper shot his partner in the leg when he fired off a warning shot to "calm some rowdy, drunken teens"

... How he managed to do that, I have no idea.

Anyone notice that gifs no longer work for avatars?

What's up with that?

The play that I'm doing? With the theatre company that I've co-founded? That I'm acting in?

It should hopefully be in a brochure for the theatre. A brochure that has... Well:

This gentleman on the cover.

Our play in the same brochure as a Steven Berkoff production...

...Yeah...

I had to Google him, but now realize !Victor Maitland!

I am impressed.
Col. Hans Landa: You'll be shot for this!
Lt. Aldo Raine: Nah, I don't think so. More like chewed out. I've been chewed out before.

Ed, your voice, though.. You sound so Standard American. You could probably teach a class.

 Meanwhile, Jon, that's awesome.

The way I have it figured, the unhealthier your lifestyle, the longer you live. I'm unsure if it's good or bad. I guess it means they have 20 extra minutes to create a cure for you.

I tried answering the questions skewing it towards all the bad shit to test that theory:

You'd last 46 minutes before becoming infected!

Okay, so I was having trouble going to sleep the other night and started taking down short story ideas on my phone. Just single-phrase. Characters or concepts mostly. But I have like 12 of them. They seem significantly shittier now that I'm not insomnia-addled, but I think they can be hammered into something proper. So I was thinking of going all Nanowrimo on them (if I finish up the exam paper tonight) and beating something out of the keyboard, even if it is shit on toast.

For instance I have the silly concept of a guy whose houseplants begin to communicate with him. Sort of a reversal of the talk-to-your-plants-concept. The idea being that he gradually becomes so attuned to their rhythm that he becomes unable to function. Imagine going outside and having every blade of grass communicating with you at a glacial pace. I would just end up a vegetable catatonic. I dunno. But there's decent stuff too.

Thanks dude. I've got a few darlings in there, but in general I think a lot of them have potential.

He was pretty upset lmao. I love how he just fell over in the snow and kept on screaming.

Also, that made me want to watch 30 Days of Night

Exactly. Bonus points for just howling the word "Satan" at the top of his lungs while getting up - I'm not sure if he's blaming him or summoning him ;D

I watched 30 Days of Night during a blizzard in 2007 in this little apartment with the shittiest heater ever and I feel like it was one of the longest fucking movies ever.  (My roommate, Monica, sent her boyfriend out in the snow to get Skittles.  She was joking when she asked him to get them but he went anyway so she figured what the hell.. And then he picked up pizza when he was out.)

Speaking of winter:

Hufsa/Mårran/The Groke was the scandinavian winter depression embodied. She's also one of the scariest things in my childhood. She just resurfaced in my mind tonight.

It's so cute, though!  It looks like one of those awkward face memes.

(Of course, I have no idea what it's saying.  I can't even read emotions.  Other languages and I are just.. No. I have no empathy so I can't read facial expressions. Especially animated ones.  I have to have subtitles. But I'm really interested in the story about "winter depression personified".)

Also: My life right now is being super stoked that a comment I made is used as a reference in the concrit section on the fanlore wiki.  (About concrit on giftfic.  And yes, I do belong to fanficrants on lj.)

Also, this is the Cassie Claire article on the Fanlore Wiki with links to her bigger scandals: http://fanlore.org/wiki/Cassie_Claire

Strictly speaking they're trolls, not hippos - I can't really vouch for the kangaroo-guy, but most characters have no discernible race whatsoever, so I'd assume that's also the case with him.

In a basic summary, the moomin family has discussed the Groke after which the lights blow out and Mumrik (the guy with the green hat) states that "she's coming. Sniff, the kangaroo-looking guy, believes it's a prank to scare him and goes outside to check only to be scared out of his wits when she's standing right outside the door. The father of the family proceeds to ask the Groke to leave as she is frightening the guests; eventually counting down to threaten her. But I guess you'd get most of that without words. :)

About the winter depression analogy: The Groke is a tragic, lonely figure who craves warmth and light, but drains it from her surroundings wherever she goes, leaving darkness and ice behind her. There are examples of her putting out fires by trying to warm herself by them, and it is implied that she would freeze anyone she touches to death - or at least cause them severe harm. The subtext is that depression can remove the comfort of both heart and hearth, and is something to have a healthy respect for, like a force of nature. It's further implied that facing down the Groke alone is practically impossible and that she is much less dangerous when confronted as a group. Sitting closer if the fire is small, to get folksy on you. ;)

Another, more general interpretation, is that she is a metaphor for loneliness as such - being unable to receive or give love without smothering it. The mountain range where she usually lives is also called The Lonesome Mountains, so there's that to consider.
